A Boxer Dog Family
Discoverboxerdogs.com is the boxer dog family, Chris and Mary Kustanbauter, and our rescue boxer dogs – Duke and Katie.
We have been adopting boxer dogs from Adopt A Boxer Rescue for the past 17 years. We have been blessed by these kind and gentle souls. We are grateful they are able to live a happy, healthy life after living in horrible conditions and being cruelly treated.
Boxers have been a part of Chris’s life since childhood. He had 3 boxer dogs growing up that he got as puppies: Thor, Nemo, and Chaucer.
Boxer Dog Family – Background
We met at Lock Haven University, in Lock Haven, PA. Mary was a Biology-Chemistry Major and Chris was a Biology Major.
That’s why we like sharing the science behind the products, studies, and information that can benefit boxer dogs.
We were married in September of 1986 and just celebrated our 36th Wedding Anniversary.
Children
We have two wonderful children and a lovely daughter-in-law who are an extension of our boxer dog family.
- Emily – lives in Poland and works for a large Marketing & Multi-media Company
- Derek – A chef and baker who lives in Charleston, SC with his wife Molly.
- Molly – Our daughter-in-law, who is also a trained chef and is a GM at a local restaurant. Molly is from Oxford, UK.

We’ve been blessed with a number of boxers in our lives that we will never forget.
Whether they’ve crossed the Rainbow Bridge and are playing and running or are a current part of our family, they’ve made our lives better.

Chris was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2012. We participate in clinical studies and contribute our time and money to the following organizations because of their efforts in helping find a cure and help people live better with Parkinson’s disease.

Boxer Dog Family – Hobbies & Interests
Mary
- Flowers – Mary loves to plant and take care of flowers all around the house
- Exercise – Mary is an avid exerciser and loves to swim, walk and cycle. She participates in a number of group fitness classes at the York JCC. She enjoys Spin, Hi/Lo Circuit, and Water In Motion.
- Baking – Mary has a sweet tooth and loves baking: cookies, pies, and cakes. She does a great job!
- Travel – Mary loves to travel to see the kids.
Chris
- Guitar – Chris loves to sit and practice and play guitar for friends and family. He owns 4 guitars:
- Acoustic: Martin Dreadnaught and a Martin 000 Junior Travel Guitar
- Electric: Epiphone SG Guitar (Red) and a Fender Squier Stratocaster
- Fly Fishing and Fly Tying – Chris loves being out on the water dry fly fishing for trout. He can also be found sitting at his fly-tying desk tying flies.
- He has a website with his brother Brian – Flyfishingbros.com.
- They also started a Facebook group – Fly Fishing For Beginners that has 50,000 current members.
- Gardening – Chris grows a big vegetable garden every Spring and Summer. He loves to can and freeze what he grows.
- Outdoor Activities – Chris owns a cabin that he spends time at with his brother Brian (aka “Bud”)
- Exercise – Like Mary, Chris likes to exercise: Cycling, Strength Training, Swimming, and Yoga. He also attends the JCC and participates in group fitness: Spin, Soul Fusion, Water In Motion, and Hi/Lo Circuit.
